I think Faulkner is a great writer and has great stories, but the way he writes is so southern. Since I'm not really used to that kind of writing it's kind of hard for me to read and understand, but the short story I'm reading is a bit of an easier read. It doesn't seem like his typical style, or from what I've read. I can understand the story but it does take me a couple of times to understand it. Is anyone else having that problem, or is that just me?
I find Faulkner very interesting. I can't say that I do or don't like him so far. I find his writing a little confusing, for me it is hard to follow. I am reading The Bear, and so far it is taking me so long to get into the story. I feel like I am reading Grapes of Wrath again, I'm trudging through his words to try and get to the meanings that I can understand. I hope it gets better.
I guess I'm the only one so far that likes Faulkner's style. Maryssa said it was confusing, and the meaning is not right there, but for me, as I said before, the plot is all right there, in the open. I'd go on, but I don't want to repeat all of the things I said in the previous blog post.
So far from reading The Bear I am honestly going to say I'm lost. This is my second time reading over the first 15 pages, but I'm just going to keep reading. Hoping it gets clearer.
I enjoyed Faulkner's style of writing. Many find it difficult to read the southern dialect but I find that it adds to the story. In his story "the old man" he doesn't name his characters but simply describes them. He tells you the story but leaves holes and mysteries for the reader to fill in as he/she sees fit. I enjoyed this part of his writing technique because I found that it really kept me reading.
New quarter, new blogs. You need ten before the end of the 9 weeks. We are trying to focus on the rhetoric, grammar, and mechanics of our reading. Start getting ready for the exam.
